So sweet...

When Sam came home for lunch today, a rare treat I always look forward to, he was complaining about how hungry he was. I asked him why he was so hungry (after all it was only a little after 1 and he never complains of hunger that early) to which he responded, I've only had a weight loss shake and a doughnut today.

Feeling bad, I started to go make lunch, and then stopped and asked where he got a doughnut from. He proceeded to tell me at work he was a little late driving the shuttle to pick up this older lady, who sat bundled outside in the freezing cold, crying. When she got into the van Sam asked her what happened. She told him that another mentally ill adult had gotten upset about the shuttle being late and had stormed off right after calling her a mean name. She asked Sam if she really was that bad word, to which Sam replied, "No...do you like doughnuts? I think you have had a rough morning and need one."

So sweet, huh? That is what I thought at first until I asked Sam: wait, did you get her a doughnut to be nice and cheer her up, or did you use her misfortune as an excuse to get yourself a special treat?

Sam's response: everyone does stuff for one reason or another. Usually helping people gets you blessings from heaven, but I just really wanted a maple bar.

I like it! That's super funny! And after reading your story this morning, Shawn had to run across the street to Albertson's to grab a maple bar for breakfast! :)

Like Amanda, I find the combination of a weight-loss shake and a donut amusing. . . and familiar, since that was my breakfast each morning when I went to BYU. We must be related, Sam!

P.S. I have another funnier comment but it's also mean, so I'm just going to text it to you. That way your feelings are still hurt but I won't incur other people's judgment for my brutality.
